The family of a 12-year-old boy have said that he took his life after being subjected to bullying over his sexuality.
Andrew Leach came out as bisexual to his class and his father, Matt Leach, says that he was then bullied by classmates.
Talking to WREG , Matt explained that his son “was struggling a lot internally with sexual orientation”.
“He finally came out with the information at school that he thought he may be bisexual.
“I think that really amped up the bullying,” the father explained.
However, both of the parents did not realise how much the bullying had affected their child.Andrew’s mother, Cheryl Hudson, explained that she was “oblivious to it”.“He just always seemed happy.“If you were down, he’d try to help you up,” Hudson said. “Off with her head!” Are misogynistic film producers being inspired by a phrase uttered by the Queen of Hearts in Alice Adventures in Wonderland when they design their posters?
It would seem so. But the issue of faceless women in Hollywood is sadly nothing new. In 2016 stand-up comedian and singer Marcia Belsky founded the Tumblr blog Headless Women of Hollywood , which highlights various pieces of promotional artwork that depict women’s bodies but refuses to show their faces.
Around the same time, Marcia also started Twitter and Instagram accounts that focus on the same subject. Recently, her discoveries have been trending on social media as more and more movie-lovers pick up on how infuriatingly sexist it is that such posters feature headless women, especially when the movie industry is supposedly championing inclusion and equality louder than ever right now.
More often than not, the shameless concept is used in posters for comedy movies; specifically, comedy movies that centre on male characters. Belsky has previously named and shamed films such as Dirty Grandpa , Staten Island Summer , Hall Pass , Sex Drive and Hot Tub Time Machine .
Even 1984’s Bachelor Party , which stars Tom Hanks as Rick, a nice guy […]
(Pexels) A school in India has forced ten female students to sign a letter that they are a lesbian as a punishment for their “intense friendships” at school.
The ten girls were told to sign the letter by the acting headmistress at the school in Kolkata, India after she “received complaints” of the girls’ behaviour from other students.
They were then told that they had to write a written admission confessing that they were lesbian and then had to present it to their parents as punishment.
“We called those students and they admitted it,” said acting headmistress Sikha Sarkar, who doled out the punishment.
“Considering the sensitive nature of the issue, I asked them to admit it in writing. I have got written admissions from all 10 students.
“Today we called the guardians to apprise them of the issue. Our aim was to discuss the matter with them so that we can bring these girls on the right course through efforts both at home and in school,” she added. The guardians of the schoolchildren spoke out in rage against the punishment. The term “lesbian” was flung around like it’s a swear word,” said a former student of the school..“What happened with those girls is abhorrent,” said […]
(Pexels) The next fight for transgender rights will take place in Alaska as plans to pass anti-trans bathroom legislation are underway.
The state’s capital city of Anchorage are debating an anti-transgender toilet ballot initiative in their next municipal election, where voters will cost their ballot on a mail postal vote.
The bill will seek to limit both locker and bathroom use for transgender people to the gender listed on their birth certificate.
“We’ll be able to have this community discussion,” said the president of Alaska Family Action.
“I think it’s healthy, think it needs to be done.”
If the vote passes, private business owners will also have the ability to kick transgender people out of bathrooms and locker rooms.“Like so many other places in this country, we are seeing a backlash,” Kati Ward, campaign manager for the LGBT advocacy group Fair Anchorage to The Daily Beast.According to the publication, 30% of transgender people live in poverty in the state, which means that they will have little choice to challenge the bill.In the 2015 transgender survey, half of the transgender Alaskans living in the stomping ground of Sarah Palin said that they “avoided using a public restroom in the past year because they were afraid […]
(Getty) Hit show Transparent looks unlikely to return to screens this year for a fifth series after the show’s lead was expelled from the cast after being accused of a swathe of sexual assault allegations.
The announcement comes two weeks after the studio said that they would not be inviting disgraced actor Jeffrey Tambor to continue as Maura Pfefferman in the hit series.
With this in mind, creator Jill Soloway and the studio have pushed back filming to begin at the end of the year, possibly in December, Hollywood Reporter said in an exclusive .
The actor, who plays transgender lead Maura, was ejected from the show when co-star Trace Lysette – alleged that the actor had “made many sexual advances and comments”.
The actor’s former assistant also accused the actor of groping her and making inappropriate comments. He also threatened her in case she shared her experiences. “I am profoundly disappointed in Amazon’s handling of these false accusations against me,” Tambor said in a statement.
“I am even more disappointed in Jill Soloway’s unfair characterization of me as someone who would ever cause harm to any of my fellow cast mates. In our four-year history of working together on this incredible show, these […]
A married couple who live separately and are in a platonic relationship have been officially appointed as the legal guardians of their surrogate child.
The partnership, where one half of the couple is gay, knew of each other’s sexual orientation before they got married.
As a consequence, a senior family court ruled that the marriage and parenthood still stood, in spite of the platonic nature of the union, reported The i .
“There is, as Ms Fottrell has demonstrated, no ground upon which the marriage could be declared voidable, let alone void,” ruled Sir James Munby, president of the Family Division of the High Court. “There can be no question of the marriage being a sham. In short, the marriage is a marriage. The fact that it is platonic, and without a sexual component, is, as a matter of long-established law, neither here nor there and in truth no concern of the judges or of the State,” said the president in the senior ruling.
“The applicants were indeed, and remain, married to each other,” he said in a ruling made public on Tuesday.
The judge also added that although the homes of the couple were separate, they were still the familiar and only homes […]
(Getty) World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, a long-time campaigner for LGBT rights, has died aged 76.
The British scientist was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare form of motor neurone disease, at 21, and given two years to live.
The condition left him wheelchair-bound, able to speak only with a voice synthesiser, but over the next half-century, Hawking became world-famous as he transformed our understanding of physics. (Getty) He died peacefully at his Cambridge home in the early hours of this morning, his family said.
In 2012, Hawking called on the government to pardon gay war hero Alan Turing , who was convicted of ‘gross indecency’ in 1952 after having sex with a man.
Turing was chemically castrated, barred from working for GCHQ, and took his own life at 41-years-old.
In an open letter, Hawking called Turing “one of the most brilliant mathematicians of the modern era” and urged then-Prime Minister David Cameron to “forgive this British hero, to whom we owe so much as a nation, and whose pioneering contribution to computer sciences remains relevant even today.” (Getty) And last year, the British Government issued a pardon for men convicted of having sex with other men. The pardon affected around 49,000 […]
(Instagram/desmondisamazing) New York City Pride organisers have been accused of making the event a “celebration of paedophilia” for putting a 10-year-old “drag kid” at the front and centre of its advertising campaign.
Desmond Napoles, known better as ‘Desmond is Amazing’, is part of the ‘Defiantly Different’ 2018 Pride.
Speaking in the campaign ad, the youngster explains that he identifies as an “androgynous drag kid” who knows he is “different”.
“I am very young and doing drag at a very young age. (Instagram/desmondisamazing) “It makes me feel amazing. It gives me courage and also gives other people courage to do what they want,” he says in the ad.
Some people have taken offence to Desmond’s love for drag and confidence in performing.
Michelle Cretella, president of the conservative group the American College of Paediatricians, has said that the Pride event would be a “celebration of paedophilia” is it allows young children to perform.“As a paediatrician, I will go one step farther and say that the parents of these children and others promoting this are guilty of paedophilic grooming“Our culture is morally blind and has suppressed the scientific facts about homosexuality and transgenderism,” she told CBN. Cretella has a long history of anti-LGBTQ rhetoric as […]
(Photo by ANWAR AMRO/AFP/Getty Images) Politicians in Lebanon have called for the government to decriminalise same-sex sexual intercourse.
Right-wing Christian Democrat party, the Kataeb party, announced plans to scrap the law on television over the weekend.
Discussing a 131-step plan that the party will put in place if they win the May 6 elections, officials from the party stressed that it was a crucial part of their social agenda to scrap the current criminalising laws.
Currently, article 534 of the Lebanese Penal Code prohibits sexual relations that are “contradicting the laws of nature”.
The law is technically punishable with jail time of up to a year.
However, numerous courts in the country have ruled that the article should not be used to arrest people for engaging in same-sex sex. This means that it is de facto legal.
