The policy recently announced by the Trump administration would allow healthcare professionals to refuse to treat LGBT+ people if they have a religious objection.
Trump’s proposed rule would remove an Obama-era protection and would allow doctors, hospitals and health insurance companies to deny coverage or treatment based on gender identity.
The Justice Department confirmed to the New York Times that the Department of Health and Human Services have submitted a draft of the new policy. (Getty) The Mail on Sunday has been criticised after publishing a story about transgender children that has been called “anti-trans scaremongering.”
In the Mail on Sunday on April 22, reporters had a 15-year-old boy purchase oestrogen tablets from an online pharmacy to demonstrate the “frightening ease” of buying the medication as an under-18.
This was reportedly prompted after an investigation by the paper into multiple online forums where transgender youth discussed their transitions and their medical treatments.
The piece was titled: “Cowboy chemists are selling ‘DIY trans’ pills to teenagers and more and more are ‘risking their lives’ by taking black market drugs.” (Photo: Mail on Sunday) Although testosterone, typically used by trans men, is a heavily controlled substance and is more difficult to obtain, oestrogen is more available online partially due to its use in hormonal birth control.
Transgender girls — who are frequently referred to in the Mail on Sunday piece as boys — were reportedly seen to share information with other teenagers on these forums on how to obtain hormonal treatment.
The piece used the now-closed online pharmacy Quality Health Inc to purchase the drugs without an age check. The story has been criticised by many for not discussing in depth the […]
Labor Leader Bill Shorten (Photo by Lisa Maree Williams/Getty Images) The Australian Labor Party has announced a plan to ban gay conversion therapy across Australia, calling it a “discredited and dangerous” practice.
Australia’s shadow health minister Catherine King announced the plan to federally ban the highly damaging practice on Saturday.
In an interview with The Age , King said that banning the practice nationwide would be her “personal priority” if the Labor Party was elected next year.
“Gay conversion therapy is discredited and dangerous,” she said.
“As the federal shadow health minister, I urge all jurisdictions to follow Victoria’s lead and ban gay conversion therapy. Catherine King (R) (Photo by Lisa Maree Williams/Getty Images) “If this issue isn’t resolved before the next election, and I’m lucky enough to serve as health minister afterwards, it’ll be a personal priority for me.”
The highly disputed practice of ‘curing’ someone of their gender identity or sexual orientation is currently banned in the state of Victoria but legal in the rest of the country. In March of this year, a man launched a petition to end the practice in Australia , saying: “praying the gay away nearly killed me.”The announcement from the Labor Party is a contrast to a […]
karendesuyo via Flickr The state will join Illinois and Connecticut in making gay ‘cure’ therapy subject to consumer protection laws.
The California Assembly has voted by 50-18 votes to introduce fraud convictions for people who carry out gay ‘cure’ therapy. Attempting the discredited practice on minors is already illegal in the state.
Democrat Evan Low submitted AB-2943 which will add “advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual,” to the existing civil code.
The new law also states: “Sexual orientation change efforts means any practices that seek to change an individual’s sexual orientation. This includes efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings toward individuals of the same sex.
“Sexual orientation change efforts does not include psychotherapies that: (A) provide acceptance, support, and understanding of clients or the facilitation of clients’ coping, social support, and identity exploration and development, including sexual orientation-neutral interventions to prevent or address unlawful conduct or unsafe sexual practices; and (B) do not seek to change sexual orientation.”
Low, who is also the chair of the LGBT Legislative Caucus said: “Study after study has shown that ‘conversion therapy’ is ineffective, damaging, and […]
Earlier this week, Theresa May gave a speech where she said that she “deeply regrets” anti-LGBTQ laws that were introduced in the Commonwealth under British law.
Although the announcement went down well with many, it didn’t go down well with Nigerian columnist Paul Onomuakpokpo. Unable to comprehend why someone straight would support LGBTQ rights, he came to the conclusion that Theresa May was a lesbian.
“It is either that British Prime Minister Theresa May is on the verge of divorcing her husband or she is a lesbian even though she is married to a man,” Onomuakpokpo wrote in the Nigerian Guardian.
He continued: “In either case, the PM might be considering taking a wife from Nigeria or any other Commonwealth country that her ancestors presided over its expropriation and ruination.
“Obviously, May is ruing her mistake of ever getting married to a man. She would have preferred to be a lesbian-husband with a wife. Or why is she rhapsodising about the glories of homosexuality?”
He then suggested that Theresa May should be arrested for deceiving the public, writing: “If May does not hanker after lesbianism, then she should be charged with duplicity directed at sexually perverting millions of other people while she is […]
