Bryony Frost: Meet the Cheltenham hopeful whose babysitter was a donkey

Bryony Frost won the amateur Foxhunter Chase at Cheltenham last year It is while we are discussing the barriers faced by women jockeys that Bryony Frost casually mentions that her former babysitter was a donkey.

A donkey?

"Yeah, I think it was my parents being lazy," she jokes. "Nosey was an absolute dude. He was brown and white and I was just two when I got plonked on him.

"The rule was if you get off him, you’re not allowed back on, so I would sit there all day. I would even fall asleep on him and can remember going everywhere with him, even my gran’s kitchen.

"They are the best friends you can have."

It later transpires that most questions put to Frost, who will feature at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday and Friday, reveal more about her forensic obsession with horses than her views on gender representation. While she talks about the road to the top, how argumentative her mount Black Corton is, or how important breathing is in racing, you are temporarily lost in her world. It is clear that the 22-year-old, who likes to surf and go mountain biking in her native Devon, does not see herself as a traiblazer. Theresa May To Host Meeting On Post-Brexit Powers For Wales And Scotland

Theresa May To Host Meeting On Post-Brexit Powers For Wales And Scotland

Theresa May and Nicola Sturgeon. Theresa May will meet Scottish and Welsh leaders in Downing Street on Wednesday in a bid to resolve a dispute over devolved powers after Brexit.

First ministers Nicola Sturgeon and Carwyn Jones will be updated on the government’s negotiations, including a clause of the EU Withdrawal Bill which would see some – but not all – powers transferred from the EU directly to Holyrood and the Senedd.

Representatives from the Northern Ireland civil service, which is effectively running the country, will also come to Number 10.

The government wants to temporarily restrict law-making by the Scottish and Welsh governments over at least 24 EU powers which will be returned to the UK post-March 2019, including a range of environmental issues – which the devolved governments oppose.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, May said the “vast majority” of repatriated powers would be returned to the countries.

“At this important meeting with the devolved administrations, I will be making clear my commitment to a deal that brings our country together, protects the security and prosperity of all our communities and business sectors, and reinforces our union of nations,” she said. Theresa May with Wales First Minister Carwyn Jones “We will discuss […]

Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 13, 2018 The number of senior officials who were hired by the Trump administration — and subsequently left — is now in the high 30s. According to various reports, Tillerson did not know about this decision before it happened. Reporters from AP confirmed the tweet was a shock. We got off the plane with Tillerson less than four hours ago. There was zero indication on […]

Don’t call me a ‘crybaby twink’ just because I don’t like shady gays

Don't call me a 'crybaby twink' just because I don't like shady gays

Todrick Hall’s infamous ‘Mean Boyz’ parody is exactly what Bradley is talking about | Photo: YouTube It feels like the LGBTI community is constantly celebrating cattiness and bitchiness.

It has become a trait we now proudly parade around. Especially with shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race providing rich encouragement – and the memes to make it all possible.

But there’s a fine line between hilarious sass – and simply cruel, hateful and bullying speech.

I am concerned this rising sense of ‘sass is cool’ is actually normalizing cyberbullying, making it popular and acceptable. Trolled for not being a fan of anal

Since writing for Gay Star News I’ve been getting used to getting a slew of hateful comments. When I wrote about identifying as a side , someone who doesn’t like anal sex, the trolling was off the scale.

Along with my time as a YouTuber, I’ve unwillingly come to accept that trolling is something you have to deal with. But what surprises me is they almost always come from members of our own community. And let’s be clear too, I know the comments are so much worse for trans writers!I often see people leaving comments like, ‘I’m gay… but I don’t think […]

Black gay men create sexual health campaign that represents them

Black gay men create sexual health campaign that represents them

This new campaign hopes to encourage more people to get a HIV test.

The campaign, called ‘ Me. Him. Us. ‘, from GMFA has been developed entirely by gay and bisexual men of colour.

Ian Howley, the Chief Executive of HERO – Health Equality and Rights Organisation, the parent organization of GMFA, says:

‘One of the issues that kept on coming up was the lack of representation. Especially in mass media health promotion campaigns.’

But in this new campaign – from the concept to the models and design – people of color made it ‘at a grassroots level.’

Marc Thompson is the Co-Editor of BlackoutUK and is an advisor on the campaign. He believes that although most of the health professionals don’t like to admit it, reflecting diverse audiences can be challenging for them. And that’s why you see less representation of black people in these style of campaigns:‘It’s difficult, especially if you don’t come from those communities or understand how to reach us effectively…. LGBT community in Ghana calls for a referendum on gay rights

LGBT community in Ghana calls for a referendum on gay rights

Spokesperson for LGBT Community, Philcollins Agbedanu Kröger The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community in Ghana has put out a proposition to Parliament to consider opening a referendum for the public to vote in order to decide whether rights of members of their group should be recognized or otherwise in the country.

Spokesperson for the LGBT Community in Ghana, Philcollins Agbedanu Kröger hailed US Ambassador to Ghana, Robert P. Jackson for enlightening the Ghanaian populace on the state of the group in the country on GhanaWeb’s 21 Minutes with KKB.

The Ambassador hinted in the interview that “there are far more gays in Ghana than Ghanaians realise, but because of societal attitudes they keep their sexuality very private”.

In an interview with BBC Reporter Favour Nunoo, the group noted that they are poised to prove there more Ghanaians who are gay than anticipated, most of whom are hiding following fear of arrest, medical abuse, discrimination and torture, thus affirming Mr. Jackson’s observation.

Philcollins Agbedanu Kröger further accused Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye of being unfair towards the group while reacting to a statement the latter had made stressing that Ghana would not legalise homosexuality.

“… he’s not being fair to the gay […]
